Who is she? What does she want from us?

Psychedelic Muppet Pimp Coat started as a simple, thrifted, cream-colored knit cardigan. What a canvas! But it also fit and looked kind of nice? Pre-muppeting, I wore it to work one fateful day and HARK! A vision from GOD! “God” (aka a thought that I had in my brain) told me that these thick, juicy-assed rib stitches were begging for thousands and thousands of strands of colorful yarn slipknotted to them. A rainbow fur coat made of yarn. That was the original vision.

How long did this take? Exactly how mentally ill are you?

Very and very. This took around 75 hours to slipknot what I conservatively estimate to be 20,000 strands of yarn to the coat. It weighs over 7 lbs by itself.

As you can imagine, this project did not travel well. It saw a lot of TV shows and couch time, as well as several road trips, trips to the lake, and anywhere else I felt like hauling two giant reusable grocery bags overflowing with yarn and coat like a crazy person.

What is her journey now?

Obviously there are parts of my soul slipknotted into this coat as well. Given how comically heavy it is, I can imagine any regular wearing would stretch the original coat pretty significantly. Ultimately, I’d love to sew some kind of liner into it for structural support, but I’m afraid of sewing machines and also feel like I need at least a two-year break before I ever work on this thing again.
